The basics
We’re really into hair. Like seriously into it, which is a good thing considering Hedkandi is a hair salon. But we also know that passion alone doesn’t make a great hairstylist. Having clients who love their hair, does. Which is why your luscious locks always come first.
Our philosophy
We will work tirelessly to give you the look you want, and if you don’t know what you want, we’ll work tirelessly to help you figure it out. We will protect your fabulous tresses at all costs. Even if that means that you’re not going to walk out as a bleach blonde babe. (We can promise that you will walk out as a babe who still has hair.) And finally we keep it fun. We’re serious about hair but we’re not serious.
How it all started
It started twelve years ago with a young man named Jereme Bokitch. He was a hair stylist, and although he loved hair, he didn’t quite love any of the places he’d worked at. Stylists were disposable, and there was no focus on career progression. But instead of complaining he decided that he was going to open a hair salon of his own. He was going to do it differently, and he was going to do it better. He gathered the best and the brightest that Calgary had to offer, and instead of offering them jobs, he offered them careers. He gave his senior stylists a chance to continue training, and he offered fresh associates the chance to grow into top-notch stylists.
Our stylists
Our team has taken Vidal Sassoon training in one of their many awesome academies, Toronto, Santa Monica or London. (We’re talking London, England btw.) But we also have stylists who trained at Redken Exchange and the Bumble and Bumble University in the ever-fabulous New York City. Basically we like to hire grads from the Harvard’s of Hair. And then we like to keep them that way. All of our stylists are supported and encouraged to keep learning throughout their careers, whether than means a sabbatical in Europe or a training program in LA. We just ask that they bring us back something nice.
The associates program
Great stylists aren’t born great stylists. It takes years of experience to hone those skills. Which is why we have our associates training program. We take recent grads from the best hair schools and then we make them even better. (Don’t tell Vidal Sassoon we said that.) New hires will spend anywhere from twelve to eighteen months in our mentorship program. They’ll do blowouts, color take downs, and heavenly scalp massages all while learning the intricacies of hair done the Hedkandi way. They’ll also practice on models, attend Hedkandi Academy. And when they’re ready we’ll unleash them on the floor ready to create some gorgeous looking manes.
